The mustard/ketchup color scheme here isn’t doing a whole lot for me except making me want a hot dog, but I have to say that the non-functional shoulder buckle is a thing I think we need to be seeing a lot more of.

You can read the rest of this post here, but I just had to point out a few things.

First of all, shame on you TNGFashions for not realizing (or maybe just not mentioning) that this is a version of the swanky re-designed TOS uniforms from the movies. The mustard yellow I feel like denotes something specific, since in Wrath of Khan that vulcan chick’s is tomato red, whereas everyone else gets the standard white. Also bonus points for losing the mock turtle neck.

Secondly, those buckles ARE functional! Exhibit A:

It holds up the extra panel on the front of the uniform, which I always assumed could be folded open to try to cool off. Like armpit vents, only less stinky.

In my personal headcanon for the Trek universe, the earlier uniforms were thick to protect you from SPACE and so people were always overheating easily when the ship got busted and air-conditioning of course was the first thing to break. Hence the vent-y panel. By TNG they’d figured that shit out and made the uniforms out of lighter, more breathable space material that still burned and ripped just as nicely.
